Cynomys Ludovicianus

Blacktail Prairie Dog

A large, burrowing ground squirrel that lives in very large colonies called towns. Prairie dogs are wary of predators and excavate maze-like tunnel systems. They also build earth mounds from which they can survey their territory.

Habitat: North American plains and plateaus, from Canada to Northern Mexico
Size: 40 cm, 1.4 kg
Diet: Grasses and herbs
